I hid behind poetry, metaphors, and coded messages. I became my own secret keeper.

By my twenties, I was deep in people-pleasing, codependency, and self-abandonment. Numbing with booze, boys, and bud, avoiding my own truth. At 28, I hit rock bottom. Sitting on my bedroom floor, drowning in despair, I thought about ending it all. But instead, I picked up a journal my grandmother had given me that year for Christmas. And for the first time in 13 years, I wrote freely again. It saved me.
